iomixitAs a writer who is prone to the longer side of things,I am thrilled to receive longfic for some of my favourite fandoms. I have a soft spot for gen fic and possibilities that gen interactions can have on narrative, so I have picked a mix of both.
I'm sure I'll like pretty much anything that you write for me but if you would like to get a sense of who I am as a writer/reader, I am asuralucier on Ao3.
There are very few things that I will not read, so please take the following as Do Not Wants:
- AUs set in space or A/B/O AUs or supernatural AUs.
- Extreme kink, or PWP. That being said, I love, love a sex scene that is earned, so don’t be afraid to get a little naughty. But please no rape/non-con; dub-con is fine.
- Fics featuring kid characters that are not in canon.
- Character Bashing (characters taking the piss out of each other is fine, with my fandoms it’s probably a given!)
And...that’s it! Moving on to the fun stuff, please feel free to take this list as a general list of things I like if my fandom-specific wants don’t thrill you. I am always here for things I didn’t know I wanted.
+ Excepting the AUs above, I love AUs. I think different settings can really bring out a different side of a character we know and love. That being said, my favourite AUs include Academia AU, Road Trip AU, Classical Musicians AU, and Coffeeshop AUs, Unusual Jobs AU, and Lawyer AUs.
+ I love unresolved sexual tension (UST). I want to squirm with the characters and honestly, if you include this, I’m just as happy for it not to be resolved.
+ I love characters who READ. I also like getting strange recommendations off of fanfics I read. So please, if you have characters read, I will be so so happy. On that note, I love love literary allusions, philosophising about history and the nature of time, banter, irony, and well-thought out cringe.
+ I love food porn/drinks porn. The second one sounds odd, but I once read a story that spent so much time describing cocktails and I fell in love. So yes, I’m all about characters enjoying their food and cooking and drinking.
+ Angst. This is shamelessly copied from my Yuletide letter, but I love love angst. Give me all the angst. Reasons for angst can include: moral ambiguity, guilt, failed ambitions, thoughtful portrayals of grief, depression, PTSD, lost loves and all the rest. I also don't mind character death, but please please don't let it be a cheap plot point for angst.
+ Other general things that strike my fancy: Mindgames, locked room scenarios, lush descriptions of feeling and emotions, outsider POV, character study, characters being tied to a place, sensitively handled difficult topics.
Fandom Specific Wants
This movie grabbed me nearly ten years ago and I'm so enamoured by the possibilities it still has, so hopefully you'll take some inspiration from the following! I'm especially interested in the details of dream sharing and filling out the bits of the world that we didn't get to see the film.
Arthur/Eames:
- Still waiting for that fic where Eames is legitimately in line to become King of England and Arthur didn’t know he was telling the truth. Cue Arthur camping out on the lawn of Buckingham Palace and dodging security and Eames finding this Romantic. (Prompt specific DNW: please no gaynst, but I would welcome ‘omg Eames is the King of England’ variety of angst to no end.)
-I just found out “uxuriousness” was a word. It means that one is too fond of his wife. Eames likes this word. Arthur doesn’t. Moreover, why is Arthur always the wife? Alternatively, they get married and someone from the government comes to check on whether their relationship is legitimate. Oops.
Philippa & James:
-I'm a sucker for kids growing up! Do they get into dreamsharing? If they don't, why not and does dreamsharing still have an impact on their life? Does one of them make bad decisions and the other one isn't happy about it? Does Cobb get dementia and his kids try to fix it? Give me all the sibling feels.
Stephen Miles & Mal Cobb:
-More backstory please! How does Mal end up learning dreamsharing from her father? I love the idea of her being some sort of brain heist queen and he just despairs. I would also love a bamf young!Mal who builds for her father's various capers.
-I would also love a Dom/Mal fic where Mal falls for him while casing him as a mark for Miles. It turns out that they both have a soft spot for the guy.
Arthur/Mal Cobb:
-Any variation on a Pygmalion myth would make me very happy. Personal headcanon is that Arthur speaks with a Louisiana accent when he is not careful but that's totally optional.
-I love the idea of Mal being a nightmare and Arthur as an insomniac who refuses to fall asleep a la Fight Club.
Any Pairing: False memories! Can you buy them? Have them built? I have lots of questions.
I adore this film, and would love to get some fic that really delves into what Christopher Isherwood and Tom Ford have built. I have read the book as well as seen the film, so I'm happy to have a fic that incorporates both canons. Feel free to go the AU route if that works more for the fic, but I do love the 1950s LA setting.
George/Jim:
-How do they meet? Headcanon is that they met on holiday, but where/how? Please give me an overdose of meet cute and generous descriptions of cocktails. Also yes please George low-key checking out Jim’s hot bod.
-Domestic fluff. Or, in a happier AU divergence, George and Jim come out to Charley and she is happy for them.
-Academia AU, please! Or maybe Jim is the brave new novelist that published a project like E. M. Forster’s Maurice and closeted literature professor George is smitten and intrigued. It’s worth noting that Jim is portrayed as an American in ASM, but attitudes towards homosexuality especially in an Oxbridge setting were quite loose compared to everywhere else...so I wouldn’t mind at all that Jim is the product of Oxbridge brattiness.)
-Librarian AU
Kenny/George
-George doesn't die and moves on with Kenny slowly. Slow burn is the name of the game. Bonus points if they flirt via tennis.
-A Librarian AU as above.
-An Actor AU where Kenny is an actor and has to spend some time on the campus of San Tomas College because he's never been to school. He meets George. (Jim can exist in this or not.)
George & Hank (Harold Ackerley) - Mea culpa, I think Jim's cousin name is actually Harold but he is listed as Hank on IMDB and that's what I went with.
- In the film, George is barred from attending Jim's funeral. George does crash Jim’s funeral. Give me an eulogy that breaks my heart. (It’s worth mentioning that Hank the cousin on the phone is Jon Hamm). Maybe George and Hank the cousin come to an understanding about George and Jim’s relationship, even if Jim’s family isn’t able to.
- In the book, George is asked to attend Jim's funeral and he refuses. But in the book, it is implied that Jim had an affair with a woman called Doris...I want to have the cousin visit George and get to know him better.
Period Setting period setting period setting eeee. I think this show is a rarity where the characters worked with their setting and I just want to know more about them!
Gillian Darmody:
-I find her absolutely fascinating. I know it's a big ask to ask for character introspection for 5k words but she is my absolute favourite and I would love missing scenes, canon divergence where she doesn't end up where she does in the mental hospital and finds her own way.
Tommy Darmody & Richard Harrow:
-In the end, we don't see much of their relationship but I think it's very telling that Tommy comes back in the final season to seek revenge. I would love any missing scenes; an AU where Richard lives; an AU where Richard runs away with Tommy; or basically anything else.
Arnold Rothstein/Margaret Schroeder:
-Another couple that we don't see on screen, but in Season 4 he does purchase her a house for the kids. Are they having an affair? Given that AR has always been rather sexless, how does that work? I would love to see comparisons drawn from her relationship with Nucky vs her relationship with AR but always with Margaret carving a place for herself.
Owen Sleater/Margaret Schroeder:
-Owen lives! Please? I don't mind if you make them run away and break my heart afterwards because Owen isn't necessarily a good person. But I just want something where he lives.
Lestrade/Mycroft:
- Please write me something based on this. This is basically my favourite. Matchmaker!Sherlock please.
- That natural divergent canon AU where Mycroft and Greg become flatmates.
- I adore Mycroft pining after Greg and Greg not noticing. Bonus points of Greg has a hobby like D&D and Mycroft partakes to try to understand him better.
- Casefic where Lestrade assigns himself as protective detail to Mycroft after something happens.
The Holmes Parents:
-Epic kidfic please. I'd prefer Eurus didn't exist. But I would love to see how Mr and Mrs Holmes deal with their sons being unusual. I would also enjoy glimpses into the Holmes parents' marriage.
Jim & Irene: (it occurs to me that I should have tagged this & Sherlock...but)
- It is canon that Irene works for Jim and it is also canon that Jim and Irene both have a bit of thing for Sherlock? I don't know. Something zany and evil where they compete for Sherlock's attention or just being evil best buds together. I also love the idea of them accidentally sleeping together and the repercussions of that.
- It is
